Welcome to the Brown County Art Gallery

We are well into a year of celebration at the historic Brown County Art Gallery. We are in our 90th year and the State of Indiana is celebrating its Bicentennial. We have a full calendar of events, with more being added. We also have a new monthly newsletter you can receive by email so please find the spot on our web site to sign-up. We will alert you to all of our upcoming events, but let you know about what new treasures have arrived at the Gallery.

We are enjoying our newly expanded spaces and the many new visitors we are seeing each day. A schedule of workshops is in the works, including classes for children and those popular "Learn to Paint while enjoying Wine" events...We are calling ours "Burgundy and Brush"....perfect for a fun evening or great entertainment for a wedding shower! Keep in touch!

Over 130 artists enter art work to be juried and selected for hanging. All paintings are for sale, between prize money and purchase awards, artists in 2015 received $53,000.

The popular People's Choice award of $500 will be awarded at the close of this year's show to the artist garnering the most votes from the viewing audience.

The IHA Directors' Purchase Award this year will honor the late Dick Ferrer, a former board member and artist whose work often hung in past years in the annual shows. Indiana Heritage Arts has acquired a permanent collection of more than 15 paintings that hang in the IHA space in the Brown County Art Gallery.

Jim Ross, Indianapolis gallery owner and long-time IHA show organizer, said, "Our show's goal is to encourage artists of today who are working in the traditional style made renown by Hoosier artists painting in the late 1800s and early 1900s in Brown County." He added that it was an honor for IHA to recognize outstanding artists.
