Indiana Heritage Arts Exhibition and Sale Opens to a Huge Crowd

indiana heritage arts in brown county One of the mid-west’s largest exhibitions of heritage style art has opened in Nashville. Indiana Heritage Arts held an opening night reception for over 300 patrons and artists at the Brown County Art Gallery where the artists received over 18 thousand dollars in prize money and over 40-thousand dollars in purchase awards, an amount that will grow as the show continues to hang. The show is open to the public through June 25th. Admission is free. All the works are for sale and a portion of the proceeds benefits Indiana Heritage Arts, a non-profit organization that supports the work of Indiana’s heritage style painters. This is the 27th annual exhibit for the group.

One hundred sixty artists with ties to Indiana entered nearly 500 paintings for the competition. New Hampshire artist John C. Traynor chose 132 paintings for the show and picked the prizewinners.

Artist Ken Bucklew won the People's Choice Award with his painting, "Along Echo Canyon Ridge." The painting remains on exhibit and for sale at the IHA Gallery Room located in the Brown County Art Gallery in Nashville.

Nashville artist Lyle Denney took the top prize of an IHA gold medal and a check for $5,000 for his painting “Springtime at Hanover” shown below. The painting was purchased by a member of the Hanover College Board of Trustees.

Bedford artist Thom Robinson took the IHA Silver medal and a check for $3,000 for his painting, “Before the Spring.”

Muncie artist R. David Dale won the IHA Bronze Medal and a check for $2,000 for his pastel entitled “Hutchsonville, Ill. Along the Wabash.”.

IHA Awards of Excellence and a check for $1,000 went to John Michael Carter of Louisville for his painting ”Sunset”.

C.W. Mundy of Indianapolis for his portrait of two boys playing the fiddle called “At Bean Blossom.”

Todd Reifers of Indianapolis for his painting called “Carriage Ride,” And to Terri Shulz of Nashville for her pastel called “Madeline, Late Summer.”

The First Time Exhibitor’s Award of $500 went to Douglas David of Indianapolis for his painting “My Favorite Tree.”

indiana heritage arts in brown county The “Margaret Colglazier Memorial Award for best oil depicting Indiana went to David Slonim of Anderson for his painting “Turning Twelve.”

The V.J. Cariani Memorial Award went to Angel Mercado of Farmland for “Summer in Lake Michigan.” The “T.C. Steele Memorial Award” went to Joel Knapp of Gallatin, Tennessee for “Brown County Overlook.” The Dale Bessire Memorial Award went to Scott Sullivan of Bloomington for “The Procession”. The Floyd Hopper Memorial Award went to Rodney Reveal of Arcadia for his watercolor, “End of the Line”. The Carl Graf Memorial Award went to David Woodson of Muncie for “Just in from the Cold…Self Portrait.” The Joan A Weisenberger Memorial Award went to Robert Eberle of Indianapolis for “Evening Whispers.”

IHA $250 Awards of Merit went to the following artists: Denise Frazier-Pettee of Carmel, Timothy Greatbatch of Nashville, Gene LaRue of Indianapolis, Judith Lewis of Seymour, Ronald Mack of Indianapolis, Jacob Pfeiffer of Cincinnati, Rich Schroeder of Bloomington, Carol Strock-Wasson of Union City, Dan Woodson of Muncie and Cindy Youse of Cincinnati.
